home> about us> why organic?

Because we are worried about pesticide residues and their effect on our children's health
Organic produce reduces the health risks associated with pesticide residues on our food, as they are only allowed 10% of the persistent pesticides and synthetic chemicals residues allowed in conventional fruit and vege.
The average child receives four times more exposure than an adult to at least eight widely used cancer-causing pesticides in food. Food  choices made now determine your future health.

Because we care about ourselves
A number of studies show that organic produce also contains more vitamins, nutrients and cancer-fighting antioxidants than non-organic food. It's gotta be good for us!

Because we are worried about the health of the environment
Organic farmers support natural ecosystems by working in a cooperative relationship with nature. They rely heavily on a complex understanding of ecology and soil science to ensure fertility and weed and pest control without the use of toxic chemicals that end up in our lakes, rivers and groundwater, soil, and air.

Because we don't want GM
Unfortunately science has no idea what the long term effects of eating GE food will have on our health, or what the consequences will be on the environment, or on the export markets. We certainly don't want to feed GM foods to our children or ruin NZ's main export earner!

Because we would rather spend our taxes on public transport
Buying organic is a direct investment on the long term future of our planet. The choices we make now can free us from costly environmental clean ups in the future. It has been estimated that for every $1 spent on agri-chemicals, there are approximately $5-$10 of human health and environmental clean-up costs.

Because we like to take walks on the wild side
Organic farming encourages an abundance of species living in balanced ecosystems. There is much greater diversity of birds, butterflies and plants in organic farms. When was the last time we saw a live dragon fly or a grass hopper while going for a walk on the countryside??
