You will find that there are certain times
of the year when you cannot find Purefresh carrots, apples,
or broccoli or something else that you are looking for in the
supermarket. That’s
because that certain something has gone out of season, or it’s
just too difficult to grow at that time of the year.
Seasons do come and go, and when they go
conventional growers have tried to try to fill in the gaps
with the help of extra fertilisers to make the plants grow
when they don’t want
to, or applying more pesticides to control bugs, or importing
produce from other countries, because in today’s global
market we are used to being able to buy everything all the time,
and as consumers we demand it!
Unfortunately this seasonality factor is even more noticeble
when one talks organics. This is due to the fact that organic
growers cannot use the chemical remedies that help conventional
growers combat a certain pest in summer, or make a crop grow
in the middle of winter.
It’s also more difficult to import
organic product from other countries without running the risk
of having it fumigated once it gets herehence losing its organic
status, given the tight biosecurity measures that we need to
have in New Zealand to protect our horticultural industry.
So this means that we do run out of certain
lines at sometimes of the year…
But remember that one of the pleasures of eating according to
nature is looking forward to the new season and anticipating
the taste of all the things you have not savoured for a while.
Enjoy Purefresh Organic fruit and veges while they are in season!
